Poway calls itself "The City in the Country," and anyone with solar panels here knows the country comes with dust. Nomadic Home Services provides careful, water-based solar panel cleaning for Poway homes, ranch properties, and businesses, with a strong focus on rooftop and fire safety.
Need it done? Call (619) 333-6858. We're open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM and serve Poway from our base in nearby Escondido.
Country Living Is Hard on Solar Panels
Poway's open spaces are a big part of its appeal. Those same spaces put extra dirt on your array.
-
Horse properties and dirt drives. Arenas, trails, and unpaved driveways kick up fine dust that drifts onto nearby roofs.
-
Chaparral hillsides. Homes near Iron Mountain, Lake Poway, and Blue Sky Ecological Reserve sit beside brushy slopes that release dust and plant debris.
-
Santa Ana winds. Dry offshore winds in fall and winter can deposit a heavy layer of dust in a few days.
-
Smoke and ash. When wildfires burn in the region, ash can settle on panels well away from the flames.
-
Inland heat. Long, dry summers mean little rain to rinse anything away.
Because Poway gets so much sun, keeping panels clear helps your system make good use of it.
Fire Safety and Certifications
Wildfire is a real concern in Poway, and solar arrays are electrical systems. That's why fire-safety training matters to us. Co-owner Austin Moyer has completed ISCA PV Fire Safety Training and is ISCA Certified (CSPC). Nomadic Home Services also holds ISCA Company Accreditation.
Our broader safety training includes:
-
OSHA 30-Hour General Industry
-
PWNA OSHA 1910 training on fall protection, roof access, ladders, and PPE, through our membership as a Power Washers of North America contractor member
-
First Aid and DOT training
In November 2025, Austin received the ISCA Jason Knight Safety Progress Award at the Solar Panel Cleaning Convention in Las Vegas. You'll find more on our solar cleaning certifications page.
How a Poway Cleaning Works
Assessment
We walk the property and look over the array, noting roof type, panel condition, and the safest access point.
Setup
Ladders are secured on stable ground, and fall protection is used when the roof calls for it. Larger homes and multi-level roofs get extra planning.
Cleaning
Panels are washed with soft brushes and deionized, purified water. Purified water dries clear without soap, so harsh chemicals are never needed. Ash and dried droppings are soaked first rather than scrubbed hard, and we never pressure wash panels.
Wrap-up
We do a final review of the array and let you know if anything looks like it needs attention.

Poway Solar Cleaning FAQ
Should I clean my solar panels after wildfire smoke or ash?
Yes, once it's safe. Ash blocks sunlight and can be gritty, so it should be soaked and rinsed with purified water and soft brushes, not wiped dry.

What is ISCA PV Fire Safety Training?
It is ISCA training focused on fire safety around photovoltaic (solar) systems. Co-owner Austin Moyer has completed it.

How often should I clean solar panels on a horse property?
Properties with arenas, trails, or dirt drives collect dust faster, so cleaning more than once a year is often worthwhile. We can check your panels and suggest a schedule.

Do you work on weekends?
Yes. Nomadic Home Services is open every day, including weekends, from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Does dust really reduce solar output?
Yes. Dust and grime block part of the sunlight that would otherwise reach the solar cells, so dirty panels produce less power than clean ones.
