What Makes Valley Center Solar Different

Valley Center is an unincorporated, rural community northeast of Escondido. Homes often sit on acreage, and the solar isn't always on the house. We regularly see:

  • Ground-mount arrays in a yard, pasture, or grove edge, sitting low and close to bare soil.

  • Barn, shop, and garage roofs with panels on metal or composition roofing.

  • Carports and shade structures over equipment, trailers, or parking.

A ground mount is easy to reach but catches whatever the wind lifts off the dirt. A barn roof may be taller and steeper than it looks from the driveway.

We serve properties all over Valley Center, from groves and ranches along Valley Center Road and Cole Grade Road to the farm country off Woods Valley Road, home of Bates Nut Farm. Properties out toward Hellhole Canyon Preserve sit against chaparral and open hills, where brush dust and, in fire season, ash can settle on panels. Whether your array is on the house, the barn, or a ground mount, we'll find it and plan the safest way to reach it.

Dust, Pollen, and Dry Inland Heat

Summers here are hot and dry, and rain is scarce for much of the year, so grime has months to accumulate. Common sources:

  • Groves and farm work. Avocado and citrus orchards, nurseries, and tilled ground put soil and pollen into the air.

  • Livestock and dirt roads. Horse corrals, arenas, and unpaved driveways send fine dust drifting toward nearby panels.

  • Santa Ana winds. Dry fall and winter gusts can coat an array in grit within days, and carry ash when fires burn in the region.

  • Birds. Orchards and open country draw birds, and droppings bake onto hot glass, shading the cells beneath.

A passing shower usually turns that dust into muddy streaks rather than rinsing it away.

Our Valley Center Cleaning Process

Walk the property. We locate every array and look for loose wiring, nests, or debris trapped underneath.

Plan access. Ground mounts are cleaned from the ground. For houses and outbuildings, ladders go on firm, level footing, and fall protection is used whenever height or pitch calls for it.

Wash gently. Panels are scrubbed with soft brushes and rinsed with deionized, purified water, which dries clear with no soap or harsh chemicals. Caked-on droppings and mud are soaked loose, never scraped, and we don't point a pressure washer at solar glass.

Report back. Before we pack up, we walk the arrays again and point out anything worth a closer look.

Trained for Rural Roofs and Electrical Equipment

A barn roof covered in live panels is no weekend chore. Our training:

  • Co-owner Austin Moyer earned the ISCA Certified Solar Panel Cleaner (CSPC) credential and completed ISCA PV Fire Safety Training, which matters in fire-prone backcountry.

  • ISCA Company Accreditation covers Nomadic Home Services as a business.

  • Our team brings OSHA 30-Hour General Industry safety training.

  • As a PWNA contractor member, we've trained on OSHA 1910 fall protection, roof access, ladders, and PPE, along with First Aid and DOT.

  • In November 2025, Austin received the ISCA Jason Knight Safety Progress Award at the Solar Panel Cleaning Convention in Las Vegas.

Valley Center Solar Panel Cleaning FAQ

Do you clean ground-mounted solar panels?

Yes. We clean ground-mount arrays as well as panels on houses, barns, shops, and carports. Ground mounts sit close to soil, so they can get dirty faster than rooftop panels.

How often should panels be cleaned on a ranch or grove property?

Dust settles fast near corrals, orchards, and dirt roads. Once we see how quickly your arrays get dirty, we can suggest a cleaning schedule that fits the property.

Is Valley Center in your service area?

Yes. We serve Valley Center from our shop at 740 Metcalf St, Suite 8, in Escondido, and we're open every day from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Can you clean solar panels on a barn or metal roof?

Yes. We check the roof surface and pitch first, set ladders on solid ground, and use fall protection when it's needed. The panels get the same soft-brush and purified-water cleaning we use on a house.

Should panels be cleaned after a Santa Ana wind event?

Often, yes. Santa Ana winds can leave a heavy layer of dust or ash on panels. We soak and rinse that grit with purified water instead of wiping it dry, which helps protect the glass.
